I'm not really surprised by the averages... Wish it had been higher for software engineering though, would have made it more exciting to get into it, lol.

Are you sure that those are the cutoffs... i got a CA of 7.4 on 31 credits... didnt get into mechanical or mechanical and management. Apparantly the cutoff is 7.8, and a little lower if you have 37 credits...

I'm pretty sure that its not based purely on CA, but your CA x # of units.

Ie. 6.4 x 37 > 7.4 x 31

I have mentioned the cut-offs for a full course load(37 units).

Take note that these are not correct. I would really recommend taking this post down. Its a pretty big misrepresentation.

Also your CA already takes the number of units into account. CA = sum(grade in each course X number of units in that course)/total units

No point having this topic.

They can never say for sure until all marks are in and they fill up spots. Then it comes down to whoever has a higher average stays in.

Could be 4.0, 4.1, 4.2... 7.5... you never know.

But as a general rule, a ~7.0GPA with a full course load (nothing failed or dropped) will get you into anything.

Oh, and remember its based on a point system.

So if your taking only 31 units, you will have less points than with someone with 37 units.

Exactly. They generally don't release these because they change quite a bit from year to year and they don't want people to get the wrong impression when picking courses the following year.

As I said, these cut-offs are perfect if one takes a full course load. Even if one fails a course with full course load and maintains the GPAs mentioned, he will be eligible for the program upon completion of the failed course.

Its true that they don't want people to get a wrong impression for upcoming years and this is the reason why they don't post something like this on the official McMaster's website.
