I didn't get the writer's handbook or the oxford dictionary and still got an 11 in the course (I had Donaldson).
The books may prove useful depending on your pre-existing writing skills, but neither was specifically referred to in class.
Is the Anthology textbook really needed or is it possible to just find the poems elsewhere? And as for the writer's handbook, has anyone used it to help them write their essays, or are there other books which might be more useful?
