Environmental Science
Hi Everybody!

Are any of you in the Environmental Science program? and if so, what was your average to get the admission?

Thanks!

Hey there,
When I was in grade 12 I knew I wanted to go to Mac and was hoping to get into the Life Sci program. However, my grade 12 marks didn't make the cut-off and someone recommended to apply to the Enviro Sci program as a 'back-door' way to the Life Sci program as the the required first year courses are the same for all science students. So even though I was accepted to Mac as a Enviro Sci student, in my first year I set my courses as a Life Sci.

My high school average was 85% and I believe the cut-off for life Sci was 90 and for Enviro Sci was 85

Thank you so much for this!

I'm just really worried about their target enrollment, it says they're only taking 100 students. Does that mean that this program is really competitive?

I wouldn't worry about that so much. Even if you don't get in at level 1, just take their required courses (ENVIR SC 1G03 and ENVIR SC 1C03) and then switch after your first year.

It depends how many people apply. I have no idea how many people apply to enviro sci, but if lots of people are applying as a back-door into life sci (which has been happening since the 'general science I' program split into four, but is more common in recent years), you can bet that it's going to make it more competitive.

There's really no way to say how competitive it will be because it depends on the number of applicants. Some programs (e.g. hth sci) have a high number of applicants every year relative to the number of spots, so you could reliably say that hth sci is competitive, but the same does not hold true for enviro sci.

How competitive it is or isn't doesn't really matter - you can't actually DO anything any differently than you otherwise would - so don't focus too much on how competitive you think a program might be.
