What ever happened to the welcome week logo contest that was advertised by the off-campus resource centre? They never announced what the winning entry was... and it's been 29 days since they said they would. :|

they gave a preview of what the laundry bags will look like here: https://www.facebook.com/MacSSC
along with the following .....

"A look at our laundry bag giveaway to incoming first year students attending Welcome Week 2012/2013.

Thank you to Russell Gibbs for designing the "You Can Do Anything in Hamilton" logo, as well as thank you to McMaster University for 125 years of continuing success."

How much did Russell Gibbs pay to win this advertising opportunity?

It was my understanding that the logo selected from contest entries would be the one on the welcome week merchandise. At least they should have emailed all the people who wasted their time entering to say otherwise. It's been over a month.

I'm contacting them. And everyone should.

This contest was a joke. The winning entry is a phrase.

As I'm told, the phrase isn't even the theme. "125 Years" is the theme. Who fist pumps and gets excited over 125 Years? Even a 125 year old person would be like, "uggggh, let's get this over with already".

You're right. First of all, the "you can do anything in Hamilton" phrase wasn't coined specifically for welcome week, and it really has nothing to do with mcmater's anniversary or welcome week in general. It just feels like they changed their mind about the contest and used this one to cover up without ever telling anyone. (and yes, I did enter, so I'll be emailing as well). Honestly, first there was madebymac, now this. I'm never going to enter a contest hosted by a Mac group again. They don't follow through with it and don't even tell us the truth.

I emailed [email protected] with my opinion...

-- Edit: she responded, and right now there's question as to whether this is even the actual logo... Stay tuned. Poor announcement.

Alright, well, I just made a general inquiry to macoffcampus asking what the results were, stating that they were supposed to be out a month ago.

mac seriously needs to invest in better cameras, not steal random footage from peoples phones.

I definitely agree with everything else you said (that this contest is quite disappointing) but I don't think it is fair to compare it to madebymac. That one is run by Titles, not student success centre, and they also had a lot more at stake such as expensive prizes which made it more understandable when they cancelled due to lack of interest. Madebymac also contacted all the participants quickly after. However, as for this contest... not a word from the organizers.

Well, when you think about it, the logo from this contest is potentially the entire brand image for welcome week, and especially since it's mac's 125th anniversary, you could say that a lot is at stake .

there were also quite a few people who didn't buy titles' reasoning for cancelling the contest, so that's what I was referring to. But at least Titles had the courtesy to compensate everyone for their time. I appreciate that.

That laundry bag is a joke, the whole welcome week pass is not worth 120+ dollars (or whatever they're charging these days).

The only thing that might be worth paying for is some concert they throw at you, but even that, you could just get a ticket for it separately.
