Failing Chem 2E03
Since its an antireq for orgo, does it matter if I fail this course since it gets erased when you take 2OA3?

Its not a prereq, so failing it shouldn't prevent me from taking 2OA3 right?

Not sure about your question, but I can tell you if you're failing chem 2eo3 it might not be the best idea to take orgo 2oa3. A lot of people who are quite good at chemistry still have trouble with 2oa3.

I think I heard something about if you take the orgo most people take (CHEM 2OA3) you have to also take 2OB3 to fulfill the eng requirement.

oh really? I was hoping I could just take 2OA3 during the summer to get rid of it. So does 2E3 cover more matireal?

Hey this is kind of off-topic, but does anyone else feel the midterms this year were a lot harder than the ones from last year for this class?

I really hope this isn't the case for the exam...

Well for me, I ran into a more difficult question early on and wasted a lot of time figuring it out, by the time I figured out what to do, I realized there was more than half the test left with less than half the time to do it, so it was mostly a time issue during that second midterm, which made me guess a lot of the questions during the later parts of the test.

But the midterms from last year seemed much more straightforward compared to the ones this year.

From my understanding, 2E doesn't cover all of the material from 2OA, but it does introduce some material from 2OB. This is why 2E and 2OA aren't "equivalent" when it comes to pre-requisites. This is why I was unable to take some biochem courses as I took 2OA, but not 2OB.

Hope that helps!

Hi guys,
I took 2E03 last year and the exam average was quite low (I believe it was in the high 50s - low 60s). The MCQ are quite easy, but the reactions can be tricky. Be sure to know which make markovnikov/anti-markovnikov and be well prepared to draw the different type of polymerization reactions. If you practice well on the assignments and previous tests, the exam will not prove difficult.

Even it it is an antireq, it may still have an effect on your GPA. the 2OA3 course is also more advanced than the 2E03 course and so you would want to brush up on your basic organic chemistry before taking the 2OA3 course.
