Well, "someone being racist" is most likely not the same as "someone attacking me". If someone physically attacks you then you have to right to do whatever you can to defend yourself from harm. If someone verbally attacks you, and you physically attack them...then you'd probably have a much harder time proving that to a judge. Either way, IMO I don't think physical violence should be the solution for a verbal racial comments (not that I condone racism, I just think that violence will perpetuate the issue rather than stop it). If someone is harassing you, maybe go talk to a counsellor at the Wellness Centre or speak with campus security if it is recurring on a continuing basis in the same place on campus.
