engineers, occupy your school! stop following the rules of writing letters and complaining. Good profs or nothing!

the SRA is useless, take over the school so you can run it democratically, and hire the teaching profs that you all want. **** the administration. You arn't healthsci, they don't give a shit.

I am a third year English/History major taking a first year elective in social sciences. I am not going to mention the professors name or go into detail, simply because I feel that is inappropriate. However, this professor is the most unprofessional and frankly offensive "teacher" I have ever encountered.

I do not consider myself a complainer (and this isn't over a mark or I'm not a "troll" complaining because I don't try, my average is 11.2) and I usually can shake off "bad" professors but I am paying more money than a usual course for a joke.

I am literally teaching myself the material from the text and only go to class because of an i-clicker. The professor is completely incompetent in delivering a lecture, using the technologies they ask their class to purchase, providing any assistance (and I mean any, whether it be questions about the textbook or the material or the assignments, they are all met with hostile judgments).

The professor is going so far as to antagonize and bluntly offend students on ELM and is completely inappropriate in terms of language and tone. I know that other courses have had to shut down ELM because of the same situations.

I was just wondering if there is anyone with whom the students can lodge a formal complaint - I think it is completely unfair that first year students especially are treated with such little regard and are faced with completely unnecessary obstacles.
The problem with something like ELM message boards (or the ones on MI, for that matter) is that things like tone do not come across as easily since there is no tone that can be expressed and there is no emotion in posts.

That being said though, I know how you (and your classmates) feel. I had an ******* of a prof a few years ago, who said some really inappropriate things in class and in emails. However, since they were tenured (and the Department Head to top it off) there wasn't much I could do. Since they were retiring in April, I was better off to leave it be than create a shitstorm that would likely take me no where.

This sounds like my second year sociology elective prof. She is so incompetent, she reads the lecture of a paper and gets confused if she doesn't look at it for more than 5 seconds. The only reason I go to her class is because of the clicker! And sometimes she can't even get that going because she doesn't know how to use the technology! And she has strict rules about what kind of questions you can ask her. Totally useless. I asked her a question once because I had to double check something, she just looked at me and said to read the course outline. The question had nothing to do with whats in the course outline:(.... I don't know who hires these people.

Oh the tenure process. Producing approachable and enthusiastic professors everyday! Go to your Dept. Head or the Faculty Dean. Be objective in your reporting and encourage students who share your opinion to also speak out. They'll listen eventually.

Best of luck with your situation!

Again, pretty sure I'm in that class. If it's the same prof, she's a very terrifying person. The other day when we were watching a movie she was patrolling the class to make sure no one was texting, I understand if people are doing something that disrupts people around us such as talking or doing things on the computer with the sound on, but c'mon, it's not high school.

If you elect me as MSU President, you'll never have to deal with incompetent hags. And geysers.
