Just cores. Most of the time, you don't have labs/tutorials until you've had at least one lecture.

Can't build a house without a good foundation. The foundation in this case is your first class. Go to it, talk to the prof afterward and even mingle with your classmates. Dress to impress as this is the first time they will see you.

^ In reality, no one will remember what you wore on the first day of school (as long as you're not wearing anything dirty/ripped/too flashy, etc.)
Also, in large classes, I guarantee you that even if you were to go talk to your profs and "mingle" on your first day, they won't remember or care, really.
Getting to know your prof should be done through asking thought-provoking questions, and coming up with ideas no one else in the class can think of, rather than simply talking to them just so you can make a sound.

Last but not least, don't be nervous. Be excited!
First week of classes is when you'll discover the campus and get a little taste of university life.
Enjoy it! Before you know it, you'll be drowning in assignments/essays/quizzes.

Good luck!

and try to locate your classes ahead of time. Every year the hallways are crammed with people unable to find there rooms especially in the KTH, CNH and TSH basements. Asking people rarely works cause I find even upper years and profs have no idea where classrooms are without finding them in advance.

Also, if those acronyms mean nothing that's something else to learn in the next few days cause most buildings are referred to in such a way.

Oh gawd. The horrible maze basements of BSB. That building makes no logical sense at all. Even finding a male washroom is a pain. Which by the way, why are there so many females washrooms in that building but not males?

Don't be nervous! There are hundreds of other kids in the same position as you.

Go to your cores, not the tutorials. Tutorials for first year classes never begin till (at the very earlier) the next week.

Take a deep breath. It's the first day, you have a whole year ahead of you to establish yourself.

Go only to cores. Take abit of extra time to go early to find out which building it is. Feel free to ask anyone (people in jumpsuits or MSU shirts) that can point you out where to go

First day will be very general. They won't start right away with lectures. They will introduce themselves, introduce the course, and talk about brief things like the textbooks, materials, etc. you will need, and such.

Please, no need to worry!! Just come to class prepared and maybe ready to pull up a nice chat to the person you're sitting beside.
