The Rusty Scholar? Seriously...
How many people need to ask for Quarters before they decide not to change it?

The Rusty Scholar sounds like a one-episode-only wayward character on SpongeBob. Or yeah, a sex act.
No one suggest Nickles or Dimes please. =]

A liquor licence on a university campus is a licence to print money.
The operators of Quarters would have you think that its failure "to print money" was because it needed a $375,000 face lift. Many regulars could plainly see that every year the service began to plumet once the staff had passed their probationary period and therefore could not, for all intents and purposes, be fired.
The SRA could have saved the students a whack of cash by simply contracting out the operation of the pub. Private operators would have paid the SRA handsomely for the right to operate a pub in this space.
But hey, we already pay so much in student fees, whats a few extra bucks!
Cheers!

really, the only good thing about quarters is the drinks were relatively cheap. Like, cheaper than any other bar/club/"restolounge"lol in Hamilton.
I'm not gonna bring my laptop on thursday night, that would be retarded.

The MSU is not-for-profit and because Quarters is run by the MSU is it a service. Contracting it out would render it not a service, thus giving us no control over it and taking jobs away from students.
Again, if people what to complain, dont do it here and walk away. What to make a difference and maybe have some follow through, then contact your SRA Member, attend meetings, talk to the Board.
Dont be the old man sitting on his porch yelling at kids to get off his lawn, when in actuality he does nothing about it.

Laptop on a Thursday?
The power outlets and stuff are for people to come in and study during the day. The old Quarters had a lot of wasted space, but now its going to have a lounge and plugs so you have do work over lunch or whatever.

I see....because the MSU is not-for-profit, Quarters couldn't be run "for profit" in order to fund other much needed MSU student services or to reduce the supplementary fees students are forced to pay to support the MSU. A great example of illogical reasoning...the kind of thinking that approves such uneeded expenditures.

I never said it shouldnt be run for profit, the whole reason we are redoing it is to make it more profitable.
And those fees are you forced to pay do a lot of good. Even if you dont use all the 30 or so services, other people do and they help many get through their time here.

so I'm paying for services for other people? FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF FFFFF
Actually, I'd like to see some statistics of how many of the 20000 students use the 30 or so services in a given month or academic year.

Personally I use the dental plan, Union Market, Quarters, Underground, HSR pass and Compass. I read the Sil, I have attended Campus Events events and I have been hired by Elections. Thankfully I have never had to use EFRT or SWHAT, but I am glad to know they are there in case I need them, and after I graduate, I will get a Marmor. Those are ALL MSU service, and not even close to all of them, and I defy someone to to tell me they have not used an MSU service at one time or another.

I thought it was a $455,000 face lift. $80,000 came from outside the MSU for the renovations. This is probably too much money to invest in the first place. Hopefully it works out, and works out quickly... if not I hope to see some BoD's step down, especially after spending money that was not allocated to them by the SRA.
Contracting it out doesn't seem like a bad idea, especially if you can negotiate the hiring of students in exchange for having a space that could potentially bring large amounts of revenue. I don't suppose anyone looked into that though.
It will be an interesting start to next year. Hopefully construction doesn't fall too far behind.
