This is probably a question that has been asked several times, but can we select 1st year electives now or not? Because every first year course is full right now... which i doubt that's possible.

Am I supposed to wait until august to register in them? Because I don't think SOLAR will be open for me when first years pick...

I think that's what they intend to do, to let the 1st years pick the 1st year courses first without having upper year students taking up most of the seats.

Nah, just check after SOLAR reopens in August, spots will probably mysteriously appear

I somehow managed to get into some 1st year courses already - I think people are switching around, so check SOLAR often, maybe a spot will open up.
