First year social sciences admission
Hi,
So I'm currently in grade 12 and I've applied to mac for social sciences and also humanities but the program I really want is soc sciences. I'm expecting my average at the end of the sem to be 83% in the 4U courses I took and I'm taking 3 more U courses next sem which I'm expecting I'll do well in but I'm super stressed because I'm not sure if that'll be enough to get me in so not sure what to do. So what I'm wondering is what averages do people usually have when accepted and where my average should be around. Thanks in advance guys!!

Typically, the admission average for Social Sciences I is around the mid-70s and was 75%-78% for the 2016/2017 school year. The same goes for Humanities I since the programs are somewhat similar. You should have absolutely no problem being offered admission with an 83%.

Hi I am also a prospective student who is really hoping to get into Social Sciences 1, I graduated this past June and have already gained my (OSSD) I went back this semester to take 2 more classes because I wasn't sure what I wanted to apply to, my average at the end of this semester is 76 and I am super worried, I'm also wondering what the averages are to get in, knowing that the range is 75-78! I'm wondering if anyone had any information! it would be great if so!

You just answered your own question - all you get is a range, since the cutoff changes from year to year depending on the number of students who apply and their grade averages.
76 is in the middle, so it's worth applying if that's what you want, but certainly not a guaranteed admission.

okay thank you for the info! I am planning for my average to rise to 82-83 by midterms so hopefully I will get admitted but will have to wait until they receive those averages, I'm wondering if you had any knowledge on how fast a program like social science fills up? like would I have a chance to be admitted in April if my average raised over 80?

I think it would be safe to assume that you would be guaranteed admission to social science if your average was 80+. The admission average to social science in was 75% in both 2015 and 2016. So provided McMaster doesn't get a huge influx of social science applications this year, you should be good

News reports are that Canadian universities are already reporting a flood of foreign applicants for next year, because they don't want to go to the US anymore for obvious reasons. And they'd rather take a foreign student paying Visa rates than take a Canadian.
