fitness and behind of it social question
Hi there

Im just wondering since Im a first year and dont know most of the people .. will going to group fitness classes alone for the first time is okay ? will the people be friendly ( I know its kind of embarassing to ask but I need to know :S ).

the purpose of this thread is to make myself confident and motivated to be active without being intimidated by some status of people... being friendly... taking the advantage of McMaster has in terms of athletics and recreation. I just dont want what happen to me in high school ...being discourage me to stop being active because of the unfavorable conditions that let me hate to take fitness physed classes.

please reply and will be appreciated :J

Hey!
Don't feel discouraged about going to the gym or fitness classes, it's the first step in improving yourself.

As for going to classes alone people do it all the time including myself! Sometimes if my friends are free we'll all go together but you'll soon find that university life can be very busy and you have to work on your own schedule sometimes. I have never heard of any problems of people being harassed or made fun of while at the gym. Everyone's pretty friendly even the staff. You just go workout do your thing and if you need help students usually don't mind!

You'll also find that everyone at mac is kind of doing their own thing. Their on their own schedule and I would say everyone's independent so they really don't care what you're up to (unless of course you're bugging them haha). But once you get settled in you'll realize its a different lifestyle and the next thing you'll know you'll be on your way to living your own life and have your own set of friends.

Hope that helps!

Hi Keiser,

Majority of fitness class participants that attend the classes are just like you! Most show up on their own eager to begin to exercise or because they simply like the atmosphere and encouragement that fitness classes provide. The most difficult part is just showing up! But once you do, you won't regret it.

Take a look at our class schedule at marauders.ca/fitness. All of our instructors are friendly, motivating and passionate about helping you feel great.

Also, there are always personal trainers working the floor so if you ever need a spot for an exercise, or have any questions regarding workout programs, exercises or anything fitness related, do not be afraid to approach one of them

Hope that helps & Hope to see you around the Pulse soon!
