Free Anti-virus?
Hey!
I think I read somewhere that all McMaster students are entitled to receiving a free anti-virus for their laptops, is this true? If so, where can I get one?

dont use avg so memory/space intense. avira is better. Then again you don't need an AV if you don't go to bad sites

Well, even good sites link to bad sites and so on. Just because you're careful about where you go on the internet doesn't mean you're safe. Heck, even after having a good anti-virus/malware/spyware program, doesn't guarantee you're safe.

I havent had any issues with AVG, and I got tired of renewing my old one every year which is why I took this path. Just make sure to configure the settings or it may give you a problem.

You're not really "entitled."
But yes, AVG, Avira, Avast!, and Microsoft Security Essentials are all pretty good.

You won't have security issues if you know how to surf properly and don't just download random, unverified torrents. I use a spare license of somebody's paid antivirus, but when I didn't, I used AVG and malware bytes.

Microsoft Security Essentials is by far the best free AV. Lightweight and extremely silent.

What everyone else has said. Microsoft Security Essentials is the only acceptable AV in my eyes these days.

I personally use Avira, it is #1 in most reviews, and I never had problems with that, but I use the paid (I didn't pay a cent of course) version.
I do have to say that the best anti-virus protection is to keep yourself away from questionable websites.
