I took this course in 2009/2010 school year with Mme. Gallier-Morgan. The course was an introduction to French. Overall, I think this course was pretty good for providing the basics. I think it would correspond to grade 9 and grade 10 French in high school which is what I have completed. As such I found the course to be review (who knew I could remember things from 6-7 years ago) as well as with new lessons and lessons that explained things that never made sense in grade 9/10. The class was very ordered and runs on a CD as well as there is oral practice and review of grammar done in class. Though the CDs were beneficial in the sense they were clear, gave you practise and you were not missing any testable material, it also made it too easy to skip class. Then again, it is your prerogative to go to class which may be good to get extra oral practice but for marks, I guess you can do without class.
Course Break Down
Attendance and participation in class 10% (Freebie - everyone got full points)
2 class tests 40%
Mid-year examination 25%
Final examination 25%
The test questions were from the CDs exactly so it is a good idea to keep on top of the exercises. Each test covers around 3 units. For test 2,3 and 4, there was a composition involved where you would have to write a paragraph on a short video watched in class (the transcript of the video is in the course ware). Some people prepared these beforehand and memorized it but you could also just write it on the spot which I think is much easier to do.
The instructor was very friendly and very helpful! I agree with Mz.Morra13 about Madame's fashion
I recommend this course to anyone who wants to brush up on their French and doesn't mind a 6 unit course. It's pretty easy and should be light in terms of workload if you keep up. (The exams were both in the end of the exam period so you get tonnes of time to get caught up though if you didn't keep up in the beginning).
