lol ok thanks! good to know! i was just wondering cuz it didnt put down a time for the labs so i was worrying they might put one down later and it would conflict with my other courses :p. thanks again!

I would recommend using the CD as practice, because:
1) it can "stay awake" 24-7
2) it's faster than waiting to be asked a question in class (although oral practice is very helpful)
3) some questions on exams have been taken straight from questions in the CD, if not modified, and it's useful to know what the questions ask for (i.e., for a few questions, the format is sometimes tricky in what it's actually asking, even if the answer may seem technically correct)

I have registered in this course for next year and unfortunately I am having 18 units in first term and 12 in the second. Assuming that I don't manage to balance the two terms out, do you think that having French 1Z06 add a heavy burden to my first term load ???

Quick hint for any slackers like me... Yes, you're supposed to do 3 hours/week of CD-ROM practice. No, she doesn't make sure it's done. Yes, you still need to do it if you intend to pass. I put it on the back burner for most of term1, and paid dearly at test time. Even though the volume of questions seems annoying it's critical to pay attention and keep trying until you can answer them with a 100% grade.

For anyone with a post-Windows XP computer (including macs), you will likely have trouble installing the CD, content is from the late 80s and my Win7-64 machine just laughed at me. Instructions for installing a Windows XP emulator were included, but I still had problems. Quickest solution: steal an old XP machine from home (remind your parents they need a new comp anyway...), and run the software from there. Dr. G-M is an excellent teacher, takes the time to learn the names of those who are alert and responsive in class.

This course is fine for anyone with ZERO french experience, but easier for anyone with up to grade 9 french. Just keep up with the CD, participate in class, and you'll do fine!

Does anyone know if the final exam requires a written component? As in, not the plain old questions.

I haven't been going to class at all this term because I don't find them helpful at all and have a hard time understanding what she is saying..
If anyone knows any details on the exam, that would be awesome!
