Quick hint for any slackers like me... Yes, you're supposed to do 3 hours/week of CD-ROM practice. No, she doesn't make sure it's done. Yes, you still need to do it if you intend to pass. I put it on the back burner for most of term1, and paid dearly at test time. Even though the volume of questions seems annoying it's critical to pay attention and keep trying until you can answer them with a 100% grade.
For anyone with a post-Windows XP computer (including macs), you will likely have trouble installing the CD, content is from the late 80s and my Win7-64 machine just laughed at me. Instructions for installing a Windows XP emulator were included, but I still had problems. Quickest solution: steal an old XP machine from home (remind your parents they need a new comp anyway...), and run the software from there. Dr. G-M is an excellent teacher, takes the time to learn the names of those who are alert and responsive in class.
This course is fine for anyone with ZERO french experience, but easier for anyone with up to grade 9 french. Just keep up with the CD, participate in class, and you'll do fine!
