So you've started school, accepted your Payment Agreement, and realized... hey... I need to save up some money! Well look no further than getting a part-time job on or around campus. McMaster provides you with many part-time job opportunities, you just need to know where to look!

MSU
To start, the MSU, McMaster Students Union, offers job from time-to-time that are on-campus and have a great working environment because hey, it's the MSU! Ontario Work Study Program
During the Fall-Winter term, the OWSP is a great way to land that job you've wanted to do during the school year. The placements vary, and there's sure to be something you'd be interested in but you need to act early in order to get that great position. Hospitality Services

Quarters
Quarters, the newly renovated "restolounge and club" is always looking for enthusiastic and fun people to work with and help during the day as well as at night when they serve the club scene. Chad..you are just one step above to be amazing. I want to advice all the first years who wants to work. Please do it only if you think you can manage your studies as well or you will face a big dissapointment in your report card. However working experince is really beneficial as years roll by. I know I am confusing you now but ask yourself If you can deal with time crunches and a busy work schedule!!!!!

Hi, Im an interntation student coming to McMaster next year (september 2008), it will be my first year (Engineering Level 1).
Can I get part time jobs on campus ? because I heared that international students cant get part time jobs first yaer on campus...

International Students' Work Program
International Students' Work Program is available throughout the year for current full-time undergraduate international students who demonstrate financial need. Access to the work programs for international students is available to upper year students only (3rd year and up). Applications received from first and second year students will not be considered. Full-time employment is available during the summer months; part-time employment is available during the fall/winter study period.You can apply ONLINE through MUGSIbeginning March 1st - July 31st for summer work and August 1st - February 29th for fall/winter work-study.
To be considered for Fall/Winter work-study you must:
  • submit an online application through MUGSI
  • be an International student
  • consistently maintain at least 60% of a full course load each term in an undergraduate degree program during the work-study period at McMaster
To be considered for Summer Work you must:
  • submit an online application through MUGSI
  • be an International student
  • have been a full-time student in the most recent fall/winter session
  • not be eligible to graduate at the Spring convocation nor intend to graduate in the fall
  • be returning as a full-time undergraduate student to continue your program in the next fall session

You can still apply for on-campus jobs that does not require the work-study program, for example library IT support. The reason is that the work study program is subsidize by the government so lower year international students are not eligible.

Or you can apply for an off-campus work permit once you arrive here. The international student service will help you with this.
