Is This a Good Idea?
I read a book I think a prof of mine might enjoy reading...
Is it appropriate to give them a copy of the book? Would they be able to accept it? I have good grades in the class, so it's not as though I need marks or anything like that...I genuinely think they might like it. I know I could tell them to buy it, but it's not a widely available book...
Thoughts?

You can suggest them the book and mention that they can borrow yours. If they want it from you, they'll accept your offer

Treat your prof like your employees. In essence, they are an extension of that definition anyhow if you considered that your tuition do go toward helping them keep their job. What employees does not like gifts? Your reason is valid, especially about the part about it being hard to find. Just make sure to sign the inner page so the prof is always reminded of you when he/she open it.

Not this again... I thought we took care of this comment in the other thread.

I don't know, it sounds a bit strange to me. The fact that you give a prof anything during the term might make them uncomfortable, for various reasons. But that's just me.

Just strike a convo with him or her explaining the book and relevance then ask if they read it. And if not, say you recommend!

I don't see anything wrong with it if you truly think they would like the book. Prof read lots of books all the time. It's not like you have any other ulterior motives. Just be honest about it.

A good idea would be to remove your nose from your professor's ass

I remember reading somewhere in the Code of Conduct that profs and TAs are not allowed to accept "gifts" from students. I don't know how many follow this, though. There's not anyone to check up on it.
