The closest thing I could find is this:
"Graduation With Distinction standing may be awarded if a minimum CA of 9.5 is achieved in a degree program."
It doesn't say anything else in the undergraduate calendar-- at least nothing I could find...

Those terms are mainly used at American Universities.
However: I did my best, and found on google some previous McMaster student saying that she received one of those distinctions on her degree, although no other information was given. So maybe McMaster does use them, but I still don't know the GPA cutoff.

They're Latin terms mainly used to refer to academic distinction, like "honours". In the U.K. I believe they use (or have used before) terms like first-class honours and second-class honours, depending on your grades by the time of graduation.
cum laude: literally, "with praise"
magna cum laude: with greater praise
summa cum laude: with greatest/highest praise

Thanks for clarifying :]. Hmm, I got "first-class honours" last year, but that wasn't during graduation, that was during the honour roll ceremony.
Well, I'm surprised it isn't clearly outline on the Mac website.

Summa cum laude is the highest, then Magna, then cum laude.
I'm pretty sure that Mac hands out this distinction by percentages. The top say, 1% of the graduating class would get summa, the top 3% would get magna, and maybe the top 5% would get cum laude.
I'm just guessing those numbers but I'm sure they're not far off.

Ah, that makes sense. It's a lot better to have it related to the class rather than marks.

I doubt a lot of people get 12 CAs or even high 11s. Remember, CA is your average throughout ALL your years at McMaster.

Last year, 2 people got a 12 CA...I think this year, only 1 (across all faculties).
So yeah, not many people get it.

Phew, that gives a lot of us more hope. :]
And yeah, getting on Provost's List is usually unheard of much less a CA of 12.
