I think she meant the error in your original post. You put giving them instead of giving you.

i graduate next year, but two sisters (who graduated in two consecutive years) were each given a choice of trip. one of them went to the dominican republic, and the other to new york.

another friend is going to israel in a couple of weeks. pretty sweet

It must be nice for people who have money.

My graduation gift is probably my parents taking money out of their RSPs to pay for my education.

i think it does make sense.

it all depends on how you paid for your school, and how affluent your parents are in general.

some people's parents pay for absolutely everything, give them a lot of things that aren't always necessary (a car, for example) and also gives their child spending money on top of everything else. some students have to pay for absolutely everything: tuition, books, food, rent, fun etc.

i've been/am somewhere in the middle of the two extremes.

when i graduated in 2008 my grandma gave me some money, and i used that to put it towards a camera lens. my parents then surprised me by paying the difference.

when i graduate in the spring i don't think, nor expect, that i will be given any sort of congratulatory gift.

I graduated this past year, and my mom didn't even show up, let alone give me a gift. :(

(And I live with her!)

My parents might help me pay for my class ring... I don't know. I certainly don't expect any sort of graduation gift.

No, I meant someone who is in debt right now, are getting a car rather than the 20,000 to pay for their debt ...

I don't expect a gift as well, just because I don't really want anything and I live at home...drive my parents' car and stuff. but I'm hoping they will pay for my MBA:(

My parents just have a "party" where family in the area comes in and we all just get drunk and have fun! So I mean that costs some money for the food and booze, but otherwise it's about it!
