Grease monkey and SOLAR?
Hey guys,
just wondering if any one knows about a post about using Grease Monkey from couple of years ago. It would persistently log on to MUGSI or SOLAR, until u were in.
Can't seem to find this post, neither can I remember how to use it? Also can't remember if it really worked...

Afzal made it so you can log onto MUGSI. He had never made one for SOLAR because of some JavaScript issues which UTS made to prevent such 'abuse' to begin with. To log into MUGSI, it did work.

I can somewhat attest to it not working any more. I modified the variables to match the new layout. It still goes from MUGSI to the SOLAR "maxon" page, but after waiting 2 hours of it moving back and forth, I haven't seen the FIPPA page once. It doesn't work at all in peak hours, but it works just fine when I absolutely don't need it.
Also, those "JavaScript issues" are gone now that SOLAR doesn't have an embedded URL (I think that's what it's called - I'm not a Comp Sci guy).

Logging into MUGSI isn't a problem at all this year though

I wonder what effect this script has on the traffic limitations of the site?
(in other words, does this script actually make it harder for everyone who doesn't use said script to log in, artificially increasing traffic, and so forth)
If you're gonna make a bagillion requests per minute, compared to 50 or so log-in attempts a minute, won't that make the whole MUGSI business worse? (but better for the select few who have this advantage)

There are several posts somewhere explaining it in great detail...I'm too lazy to search for them, but they do exist if you want to.

I know there's probably something about that somewhere I just think its stupid that there is technology to do such a thing and our tuition doesn't cover that it would be so much less of a hassle

Well, I only count ~30-50 requests per minute in peak hours depending on the lag. It's just as if you took out your reaction time when pressing ALT+F4 and clicking "SOLAR", that's all.

Good luck with it. In my experience (FYI, I made it for myself for both MUGSI and SOLAR) but the chances of it working are almost the same as you retrying manually.
Of course, you seem to have a greater chance of logging in because you're trying faster but considering the number of students trying to log in at the same moment as you every time, the advantage is almost not there.
