Hamilton Tap Water
Just wondering what hamilton tap water is like? I'm not overly picky and I don't want to buy a brita to fill up a nalgene bottle.

I think it's fine. If you are living off campus, you should test the water for lead though. Just in case the plumbing wasn't changed.

Well, we only have to worry about lead since the pipping may not have been changed. The houses here are really old.

I would say it really depends on the house and when the plumbing was replaced. I got a brita jug for home but I haven't had any weird tastes from my house or university water straight from the tap. Then again, you never know what I could be ingesting...

I really try to avoid drinking water from the tap. A Brita filter that you have in the fridge, or one that you attach to the pipe itself is a pretty good investment.

I also use a Brita filter and put it in my fridge. I get colder filtered water that way ^-^. It's in my mini-fridge and I put my mini-fridge really cold

The jug has a place for a filter. It's a carbon based filter.

Explain.
And how much do these things cost.
How long from when you fill it up to when you can drink it?

I don't know about price, but I know it starts filtering right away so in like a couple minutes you have the jug filled with filtered water.

There is a jug with a filter holder. You have to soak the filter first and then do two filtrations because the water may contain carbon dust in the first filtration.
It filters pretty fast, maybe 1 minute?
http://www.brita.ca/
The cost for a jug is about 25$ for the cheapest one. Filters are 8$ for 1, but you can buy as much at 6 for 33$.
Just browse the website.

And depending on how often you're actully filtering water, you change the filter less often. (Their estimates on changing it every 2 months is based on a family of 4 using it...)
