New Water Fountains
So my friends showed me this really wicked water fountain after eating lunch at 1280 today (which was delicious and wicked, can't wait to see what the new Managers have in store this year), and I was pumped to see this:

It's an automatic fountain, just put your bottle and voila it pours it for you.

What's super neat, is it will tell you how many plastic bottles of waste have been saved by using this fountatin, which was currently at 722.

It seems to be the only one on campus right now, but I hope we get these everywhere.

I know this may not excite some of you, but I thought it was pretty cool.

And as an added bonus, there's NO LEAD in this one's drinking water, hahaha.

You best not be trollin'...

And that is a pretty awesome water fountain. I look forward to filling up that plastic RIM water bottle I was given in first year. :p

First thing I did when I saw it was go "oh wow!"

I then proceeded to stick my head under it. It even works on heads.

I saw that too, thought it was neat. They have also installed less sophisticated water fountains for battle refills. It's not automatic but it still has the long spout thing to refill the bottle.

I find it odd how McMaster is so bent towards being green, especially with their latest no personal fridge policy; however they don't mind installing automatic bottle filling stations. Even the manual bottle filling station now has a refrigeration unit built in to keep the water ice cold. That's not very green if you ask me.

There's a fine line between going green and losing comfort which I'm sure most students don't quite yet want to pass. I for one want my water cold.

Water in other fountains is also cold, it just isn't ice cold. There is no need to have a refrigeration unit built into the water fountain. It's literally like a fridge, the sound it makes when it's cooling the water is louder than my mini-fridge at home.

I was so happy when I saw this that I stared at it for 3 minutes and smiled creepily like I just saw a really hot girl who winked at me. Man, screw reformatting mugsi, if we replace all water fountains with this type, i'd love mac for a long long time.

Yes very true, Monica was there! She called me silly (or somthing around those lines)

Also for a quick update, today around lunch, that fountain saved 802 plastic bottles.

They are now roaming free in the plastic bottle sanctuary

I put a stick over the sensor and let it run overnight. Saving so many bottles, I'm just so green like that.

Yeah, holding down that button was a real pain in the ass.

McMaster sure knows how to waste money. There must be ways to make the water cold and put those long necks for water bottles without installing completely new fountains with digital screens. I don't want to even know how much this cost.

The fact that the water is in the plumbing system, not in the sun and in an air conditioned building makes it cold enough to drink. Sometimes if the fountain hasn't been used in a couple hours the initial water is warmish, but after like 5-10 seconds it becomes pretty cold.

That's how it was for the old water fountains.
