Drinking in Res lorend Residence & Housing 15 08-13-2007 09:29 PM

NOTICE: Drinking water in LSB

Update: Elevated lead levels have been recorded in parts of:Campus Services Building, Nuclear Research Building, Life Sciences Building, T-13, Ivor Wynne Centre, Kenneth Taylor Hall, the third floor of Gilmour Hall, the Tandem Accelerator Building and in University Hall

This is a quick notice to all students who find themselves in LSB for the next little bit.

The most recent test of drinking fountain water found levels of lead that exceeded acceptable levels. Please do not drink from the fountains in LSB.

Water coolers have been placed in the building for drinking water for anyone in the building
, (except for the 5th floor, whose levels are within permissible levels).

Facility Services is dealing with the issue and it should be fixed shortly as 'special carbon filters' have been ordered and are on the way.

The whole campus was in the process of being tested, so please be aware if you find any notices on drinking fountains across campus, especially in older buildings.

If you'd like more information, feel free to contact me by pm or email.

Following up on the KTH post, shouldn't perhaps, all pipes on campus be tested for this?
When in Career Services, I overheard that their tap was no longer safe to drink out from either.
I was okay with MUGSI though it pissed me off, and the strike, and ELM...and all the other ridiculous stuff this year...but for God's sake - LEAD?!

According to the site they said testing is ongoing. I imagine its a project slated to take the whole summer and they're going building by building. If you have concerns or questions you can try calling EOHSS directly @ ext 24352.

Lol, I was thinking how ironic it is that a university has lead in their water.

People may say, well the university is really old. My response is, seriously? It's 2010, all the pipes should have been replaced years ago.

Hamilton is known to have problems with lead pipes (see ad buses). You would think that the university of all places would look out for lead problems.
