You'll have to wait till May 30th for the final upload of the grades.

Um...if you mean what I think you mean, then...

They upload as many grades as have been marked and given to the registrar, and then you get all of them together on the 30th. So maybe your courses which don't have any grades up haven't been marked yet/processed by the department.

Take this with a grain of salt, since I'm still a first year and not so sure about what goes on!

Stupid Bio 1M03...How hard is it to mark scantrons?

^...rhetorical, but....

Scantrons are just placed on a pile, and a machine goes through them 1-2 per second, fully marked. The hardest thing about marking scantrons is recording the mark on each scantron. I don't think there's software for that. It's done manually by typing them into the computer.

However, I don't think it's really excusable, considering that there's more students taking Psych, yet they have been finished for a long time now...

Ugh, they have to input the marks by hand? How tedious.

For some courses, the professor and TAs go through the Scantron sheets manually after the machine does it to make sure that it didn't make any mistakes (e.g., say you didn't erase a mistake well enough and the machine picked it up as your answer, for example).

Additionally, some professors look through to see if there were patterns in students' answers. For example, if the correct answer for a question was D and they see that a large number of students chose C, they might consider giving a mark for option C as well if it's possible that the question could have been misleading, or that C was a correct answer as well.

Sometimes if you have a really good professor, the reason marks aren't out early is because the professor is trying to make sure that you got the marks you deserved by doing things like these. They seem like little things that shouldn't take much time, and having so many TAs marking in these courses helps, but it all adds up. And considering these professors may be teaching several large classes, not to mention fourth-year courses (when marks need to be in as soon as possible for graduating students), it's reasonable that they take a lot of time to do all this.

It does suck for people who are on the pass/fail line and need to make decisions about summer school, though.

If you haven't got your mark (it says nothing beside the course on your degree audit or grade report), it just means they haven't been put in yet. If it says 0, then you should be concerned. No worries!
