I was wondering if there are any awards/scholarships for having the highest mark in a class. I know something exists for having the top 10% average in your faculty but I wasn't sure on awards specific to a course

They do exist but the classes in which you can win an award are slim.

i dont think there are awards for highest mark in the class, but for having a certain overall average. can someone confirm this?

That's pretty uncommon, as far as I know. I think the most narrow it gets is scholarships and awards for specific streams within a faculty. The best you'll get out of a single course is maybe a professor recommendation if you apply for grad studies or something like a summer research position.

I have not heard of any monetary reward for having highest mark in a particular course. Certain courses do have specific award, maybe like a certificate to recognize your achievement (Bio 1A03 1AA3 does this). Other courses allow you to have a higher chance as obtaining a TA position for the course. The best way to reap the benefits of your grade is to keep in contact with the professor and hope one day the person remember you enough to give you a recommendation letter.
