Hockey for Heart Tournament

Love Hockey? Sign your team up for the 3rd Annual Angelo Tinebra Memorial Hockey for Heart Tournament occuring on Saturday May 1, 2010 at the Mohawk 4 Ice Centre here in Hamilton! All proceeds from the tournament will be used to purchase, place and provide training for lifesaving Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) right here in our community.

At only 5 years old, Alfonso Tinebra experienced the tragic loss of his father, Angelo, from a heart attack. At only age 43, Angelo was leaving behind a 38-year-old widow and three children. Alfonso started to cope with the loss of his father through his love for hockey, and became inspired to get involved with the Heart and Stroke Foundation. He is an anti-tobacco advocate to raise awareness and prevent others from experience a similar loss. The Angelo Tinebra Memorial Hockey for Heart Tournament has been named in honour of Alfonso’s father, with proceeds going directly towards supporting life-saving heart disease and stroke research and advocacy initiatives.

“With Alfonso’s dedication and help, the Heart and Stroke Foundation has been able to continue to run the Hockey for Heart program here in Hamilton, and this year it’s going to be big,” says Jacklynn Tregunno, Program Coordinator of the Hockey for Heart program. “It is going to be fantastic. We have Wendel Clark coming to play in the ProStar game.”

The ProStar game is at the end of the tournament when all the teams have finished their games. The Top 15 fundraisers of the tournament are teamed up to play against the ProStar team, made up of NHL Almuni and local celebrities.

Individuals on teams are encouraged to fundraise and are rewarded with lots of different prizes. Register online as soon as you can to get a head start on fundraising and gain as many Hot Shot Ballots as possible. A Hot Shot Ballot is your ticket to a chance to ‘Shoot to Win’ $10,000! For every $50 that you fundraise, the Heart and Stroke Foundation will automatically enter 1 Hot Shot Ballot for you into the draws for:
