HSR Bus Pass
Hello everyone!

I'm a first year student here and just had a question about the HSR bus pass that is included in the supplementary fees. IIRC, the cost of it is close to $100, but a Bus pass directly from the HSR is ~$76. This made me wonder the length of time that the pass from Mac covers, is it the whole academic year (~8 months) or? It would be sweet if $100 covered 8 months of travel, but it almost seems too good to be true.

Thanks in advance!

It's the entire 8 months of your studies

It's one of the best perks of going to MAC! It's so helpful and easy to just hop on a bus anytime throughout the school year. It's a really easy bus system to understand as well. You can go to Westdale for dinner, Lime Ridge mall for shopping, or clubbing in Hess village without worrying about transportation costs!

Yes, it does sound too good to be true... however, every undergrad has to pay the associated HSR fee (whether you take the bus or not).

Hope that helps solve your little mystery =)

A monthly HSR pass is actually $79 and not $76.

But paying $94 for 8 months is definitely better than paying $79 a month for 8 months...which is $632 a year.

Mac has a good deal in comparison to most of the post secondary schools in Canada for bus pass prices.

You can find more information in the U-Pass Q&A article here.

Thanks for all the replies, it seemed like the situation was as you all explained it, but the numbers seemed a bit too good. However, I'll be the last person to complain about a good deal!

Thanks all!

When I was sent my McMaster Student ID card, it also included a sticker. With the sticker attached to your ID card, you can then use the card for boarding the HSR bus for the entire school year. I'm not sure if it only applies to Off Campus students only, but I imagine that it isn't.

All F/T undergraduates pay for the bus pass (as part of the supplementary fees).
