Indigenous Studies 2D03

I took this course Term II of 2008-2009 with Hayden King.

The course was set up as follows
Article Review - 15%
Article Review - 25%
Group Presentation - 10%
Group Essay - 15%
Participation - 10%
Final Exam - 30%

I really enjoyed the course in terms of content, but I wasn't too impressed with some of the evaluations.

I was not impressed with the fact I had to do a group project (20 minute presentation + 20 page paper). My group did well though, so I can't complain too much. I also wasn't too impressed with the fact that we wrote two reviews on the same authors, but different articles.

Next year there is a possability of a field trip to the zoo! yay!

hey danielle, I can only sign up for indig. 1a03, and not 1aa3 because of schedule conflict with a required course. do you think i would be fine with this course with only 1a03? I am also deciding between this course and 2b03 but I have no poli sci experience. Thanks.

I'm in 1A03 right now!

You're actually better to ask Hayden for his opinion, I think.

I took three Indigenous Studies classes last year and did really well. I didn't take 1A03/1AA3 before, but took both of the Native Lit classes (which are more English-based). I also have a background in Anthro and Cultural Studies, so that may have helped too.

Thanks so much. Okay I emailed Dr. King and I'll see what he says cause I don't have any background in those courses.

Prof King, actually. Hayden doesn't have a PhD.

But yes, I think you should wait and see what he says...he'll know better than me what students are capable of in his classes.

Very interesting class. I highly recommend it to both students interested in indigenous knowledge as well as to people who are interested in ecology and other related subjects from a science background. Not hard to do well in, and, the instructor was great.

Assignments:

Critical Response
Big Question - Report
Big Question - Presentation
Participation
Take Home Exam

My only complaint is that I thought it was redundant to do a presentation and a report on the same topic.
