Internet companies?
Hi,
I'll be living off-campus starting first year with a friend so two people will be using the internet on a daily basis. We won't be bringing our 360s or PS3s so we won't be playing on those. I doubt we'll be streaming much/downloading movies or shows or anything of that sort. Does anyone know of good reliable service with a decent monthly cap for a fair price? We will most likely not have a landline if possible. Any information/advice/suggestions is appreciated. Thanks,
herBs

I use a company called teksavvy, mainly because they're cheap and they have pretty big cap's. My house pays something like $40 for 300gb/month. Never go over, and we download and play online quite a bit.

I would recommend TekSavvy.
The speeds are 5M/800k, and there is either a cap of 300GB for 31.95/month, or you can get unlimited for 39.95/month.

I'll have to get their 'dry-loop' services though which would cost me $9.10 extra on top of whatever plan I get. Even with the additional fee are they still the best out there?

I think the other popular choice with other students in the area is cocego (at least I always saw the trucks around the areas). They cost more but I hear they are a bit faster.
Personally, I think teksavvy is the best. Good connection, fast and no contracts so you can cancel/switch your plans whenever you feel like it.

yes. You won't find better for service + price + cap

I just found out they have cable internet in their area I'll be living. Would that be better than their dry loop? DL speed is up to 3 mbps and upload is up to 256 K and it's $27.95/mo for 300GB/mo.

3mbps is gonna suck. Get 10mbps...
and no cable doesnt require dry look, it uses your cable line not copper line

That's $36.95, mmk. Can you use any modem with TekSavvy or only the approved ones under Residental --> Internet --> Cable?

I use a 2Wire (Model that ships with Bell) on Teksavvy, works great no problem. That way Modem + Wireless Router in 1.

Apparently they do provide cable internet when I looked up my postal code. Does anyone currently use Teksavvy's cable internet?

You can just call them to double check, they'll tell you if it's offered or not.
