Joining Classes
Can you go to a different time the class is held but full to get into if it still fits your schedule? Is this a good idea?

Depends on the class and if the prof is the same. I've shown up to other sections instead of my own before, but sometime the material was covered at a different pace so you may miss some stuff or have a repeat of some of the stuff you already learned

As long as you are in the course this shouldn't be a problem shouldn't be a problem. I did that for some classes. As long as the pacing of the material is consistent between the sections than it shouldn't be an issue. If the sections of the courses are taught by different instructors, I would choose a section and stick with it.

Nope. I would pick a time slot and stick to it. I don't think the instructors care which section you go to. I know for some classes each section writes midterms at different times. So make sure that if you are going to attend classes for a section that you are not officially enrolled in on SOLAR, in that you write the midterm with section you are ENROLLED in.

It is normally fine, with a few exceptions.

Other people have already mentioned pacing issues, but that's only a problem if you jump between sections.

If different sections have different midterms, then you really should go to the section you're registered in, because the prof will have prepared you for their midterm, not the other prof's midterm.

If there is any form of in-class participation marks (such as iClickers) you'll only get those marks if you go to the section you're registered in.

If you are going to a section that you are not registered in, and the room is full, then you have absolutely no right to be there. Even if you've been going to the section since day 1 and the class has never been full before, but the day before the midterm everyone comes for a review or something, and there's no room left. You are taking the seat of someone who is actually registered in that section and may not be able to go to any other. I am emphasizing this because I am assuming the reason you aren't registered in the section you want to go to is because it's full, otherwise you would just switch into it on SOLAR without a problem. This can also be a problem if a class is at a more convenient time (ex, two sections with one at 8:30 and one at 10:30, everyone wants the 10:30 class) or one section has a much better prof than the other. I've seen both happen, and then people who are registered in the popular section have nowhere to sit, which really isn't fair. If there is room in the lecture hall, then this isn't an issue.

Starfish and snowman are right about everything. It is technically a fire hazard to be in an overpacked classroom. You are technically taking someone else's seat but most people have little respect for ethics and just do as they please and just want to maximize their possible potential. I've done this before. Don't go to one class cause I don't need to or just go to a better timed class but if you really want a good seat go early.

TLDR, Yes you can
