Create a new thread if you'd like but it'd get closed pretty quick I assume.

Battery maintenance should be the same on a MacBook as it is on any other device with a lithium polymer battery, which is a pretty large set. What makes you think MacBooks in particular are sensitive to charge/discharge cycles?

I never said that. I said that their great battery life only stays if you discharge/charge them properly. If you don't you can expect a decrease in the overall battery life fairly quickly if you're waiting to charge it when it is almost about to die. If you don't, after a while it'll be at par with just about any other laptop's battery life.

I have had my MacBook for two and a half years and its battery still holds 90% of its original charge capacity, and I'm not very particular about charging it.

Again, it will behave just like any other device using the same battery technology. If it starts off with better longevity and eventually becomes at par, then anything starting at par will become subpar, which still leaves the MacBook with a longer battery life.

i have a toshiba satellite with i3 processor, ive had it for 2 years and the battery just died. i cant use it without plugging it in, so i need to buy a new battery. it is a good laptop tho in the sense that it doesnt overheat and its not loud or anything and it performs great for what i use it for (internet, schoolwork, movies etc... no gaming or anything like that). i would suggest toshiba, ive been very happy with it so far (other than the battery).. but then again i dont know much about laptops, so thats just from my own experience haha

Haha probably, but I love them. To be honest though, they're not THAT overpriced. I just purchased an m14x with i7 3610, 8GB Ram, 500GB HDD + 64GB SSD, 2GB Geforce GT 650M, 900p (1600x900) screen and some other goodies for around $1100 before taxes. I was looking at other brands like the asus n56, msi ge60, and they were actually more expensive and had about the same specs.

That isn't that expensive compared to other laptops for that price.

The Computer Department at the Campus Bookstore is beginning to roll out their back to school line up with education discounts on computers and software. It may be worth it to go in a talk to one of the sales associates about what system will work best for you.

Over the next week we will be updating the website with more models and education discount offers - keep your eyes peeled.
