Laptop for Btech students
I'm wondering if Btech students are provided with a laptop from McMaster that supports software like AutoCad. If not what laptop would you recommend for Btech Automotive.

Thank you

Autocad requires Windows (In engineering we used Autocad Inventor and Mac students had to use a software/partition to run windows). Just get any computer with a dedicated gfx card, like 6gb of ram and a decent processor and you're fine.

Laptops are not provided but they do have Computer Labs in the B.Tech building where you can use all the software needed.

Even if you do get a computer, they do not provide you with the software. You will have to obtain it through other means

What B.Tech stream are you going into?

I have a 2.4Ghz Macbook and it has been fine running all the required software.

In the automotive stream they use: AutoCAD, Solidworks, Catia, Ansys,..

Get a Macbook Pro 15 inch Retina edition. What's a few Ks when you compared it to 4 years of tuition and books. Most profs have Macbook too so you instantly have something to bond with. If you go to MAC you need to get a MAC! Don't let any plebs here tell you otherwise!

I have a MacBook Pro 13" (Early 2011 model). It's fine for my use, but you definitely do not need to buy a MacBook if you're going to McMaster. If it fits your budget, cool, if not, no sweat.

Macs and linux based comps are good for compiling code etc. You'd want a Windows based for all the CAD/FEA/CFD stuff.
