Is this laptop okay for engineering?
I wanted to know which laptops are suitable for first year engineering. I bought an HP Pavilion 15.6" AMD Quad Core A6-3400M laptop. At first I was thinking of getting the Lenovo Ideapad 15.6" Intel i5-2410m laptop, but the futureshop guy convinced me that the HP was better. I got 10 days left to make any returns.

So should I keep the Hp, or should I get a different laptop?
(The links for the laptops i mentioned above are below.)
Thanks!

They're both good enough for 1st year engineering.

The Lenovo is way better.

Plus, HP is HP. And y'know... it's HP.

Not knowing what you want, and going to Future shop is a great way to waste money. I'd recommend returning, doing some research and buying online, but if not

(which is similar the one you have)

I would probably find myself frustrated with anything under 2.0ghz (the hp), but maybe its alright... how do you find the speed? You're going to have to do various computer software (programming, scripting, etc) which takes quite some time, depending on how advanced you go, so you might want to do something particularly... intensive... to see if your current laptop will work

I checked the details on the HP site, and it says 2.3/1.6ghz.

Then thats great.. advertised specs and actual specs can either be more or less.

They're both fine for first year eng, but specs-wise, the lenovo seems better. I have the lenovo y560 and I'm pretty happy with it, apart from lenovo's mediocre software support.

I have to warn you though, my experiences with HP support has been terrible. In fact, I have an upopened HP Envy that arrived last week even though I cancelled it before it shipped AND had the HP CSR confirm it. I even have to pay to ship it back.

I've dealt with both HP and Lenovo customer service this summer and definitely prefer the Lenovo over HP.
