I just bought an Apple laptop to use next year, and used the $229 rebate to upgrade to a video iPOD. After playing around with it for a few days, I can say that I'll never be going back to PC's again. I love the operating system, interface and it's incredibly easy to use. PM me if you have any other questions!

As I mentioned, I'm using a Sony VAIO and I love it. No issues, thin, light, full of media features. So I'm not complaining about Sony yet
Being in Multimedia at Mac, I use iMac (Apples desktop computer) almost all the time in class and can say that are definitely nice with a great interface (which they are known for). I have nothing against Macs, but I don't own a MacBook Pro ... yet so I can't say much about using them day by day as a laptop.

I will make a post on the homepage soon about Laptops/Computers for school. And I hope to throw in a poll to see who's going to use Apple vs PC just for kicks

I personally have purchased two LGs and both sucked. (I bought the second because I thought they had improved with the new models and I had invested a lot in accessories.)
The first one fell apart after three months, LG would not honour the warranty claiming that since a screw was missing, it was my fault. Turns out that internet forums were full of stories of this screw falling out.
The new one I have is suffering lots of screen burn. It works however I would not recommend it at all.
In terms of recommendation, Dell has got their shit together in the last year for their higher end models.
If you have a desktop and will be bringing it with you to mac, I would suggest getting a small (12'') laptop that is easy to transport.

Great advice Joey! Dell certainly has gotten better, and my friends have gotten amazing deals with them.
Sounds like LG has been placing a loose screw in their models that they expect to fall out to void the warranty lol

I would say that the sooner you get it, the better. Sure, the laptop you want may go on sale the first week of school, but do you really want to spend frosh, I mean Welcome Week (Frosh is a politically incorrect word) setting up your new laptop?
Get it now, get used to it, have it set up the way you want and focus on enjoying the beginning of your university experience.

Looks like Dell isn't pushing a big "Back to school" event just yet... but they do have deals on now that expires on 26/07/07... so I'm assuming after that date things will lay low for a bit right before they do their big back to school push. We'll see... you can expect big savings right before school starts as it's their biggest time of year I'm sure (other than christmas) but as Joey said, its good to buy early. You not only get to play with it early... but shipping might take longer if theres a huge rush before school

Oh, they have fancy colours now... if only they had shiny laptops
All it takes is a shiny object to distract me.
