There's no reason to just limit yourself to the hospitals - it's not like the research is different because it's automatically in a hospital. Many of the labs in MDCL used to be located in the McMaster hospital and then moved to MDCL for the newer facilities - still doing the same research, though, just with newer/nicer/more sunlit labs.
You can look up the profs and their research online to see what interests you, and contact the profs who do research that you're interested in, and don't ignore a prof just because their lab is not located in a hospital.
