Hey

I was wondering how are you guys doing evaluations? What is your marking scheme? Just need advice on this before I submit this.

hey q. so is there a course outline for either of these courses anywhere? im finding the information on the websites quite vague as to what is expected of us and what our requirements are for the course. also do most profs know of these courses. i assume that you simply email them with a cover letter and a resume and indicate you are interested in being placed in their lab?

Yup. For mine, I designed my entire evaluation and each "component" they wanted me to address was explained in a separate paragraph. I added in clauses like "The academic and placement supervisor have the right to change this marking scheme at their discretion in consultation with the student. Notice of changes to final evaluations or assessments must be provided 2 weeks prior to due date" and other material, and got both supervisors to review and sign it.

40% logs/meeting with prof
20% final report
20% portfolio
20% responses on papers my prof finds of relevance

When I was talking to my supervisor he said it's not set in stone and we basically just have to write something down as a formality to please them

is it easy to do well in the course? I think it's a bit subjective .. but still, i'd like some opinions, thanks!

It depends entirely on your performance and your supervisors.

mine did not have exact breakdown, but my marks were based on:

final report
final presentation
lab work
meetings with prof and lab meetings
lab notebook
