MacConnect Wireless users encouraged to switch to MacSecure
Recent press articles have emphasized the insecurity of open wireless connections, particularly
for social networking applications. All wireless users are encouraged to switch to 'MacSecure'
which provides protected access through the use of WPA2 encryption, rather than sending
information in clear text over a shared radio medium, as MacConnect does. Please see the
following link for 'Getting Started' information: http://macconnect.mcmaster.c a/

Those who use MacConnect in conjunction with VPN access are also encouraged to switch to
MacSecure, since it provides the same level of protection more efficiently (VPN access from
on-campus will be discontinued at a future date).

Some older client devices have difficulty with the security settings required to use MacSecure.
These devices will continue to work on the unsecured MacConnect network, but are vulnerable to
session hijacking and are unsuitable for use with social network sites that do not support a
secure https connection.

i have used mac-secure for the past few months and find the signal stronger, and internet speeds faster. So thats a good reason to switch too
oh and you dont have to login to your browser every time you connect either.

I need both, whenever Macsecure fails(and quite often) I switch to MacConnect...and after 30 minutes it starts to slow down where I switch back to Macsecure

Ahh I didn't even know we could use macsecure, so many classrooms that have it but not maconnect. Ugh the wasted lectures spent writing instead of on facebook!

Does this mean macsecure is going to get slower now that more people are using it?

I agree. I like to use MacSecure, but it usually craps out after a while. I switch back and forth like every half hour.
