Last year nobody was allowed to go on any of the balconies of residence buildings (Moulton Hall has them as well, I believe attached to the common rooms) because of the risk of people drinking and doing stupid stuff. You can get minors/majors and fines for even stepping foot onto a balcony if a CA/Security Guard catches you.

And about the 9 metre smoking rule, no one really follows that. People all over campus smoke close to building entrances all the time. There are little "bus shelter" things outside the residences that people are supposed to go to when they smoke, but people only actually use those things when they want a smoke and it's raining outside.

I think Moulton has it attatched to their main common room on the first floor, yes. I had a balcony (and used it) when I lived in Whidden, it was honestly amazing.

As for the smoking rule, again lucc is right, however i think technically you can get fined if you stray from outside the smoking shelter.

I just got accepted to mac engineering for Sept. '08 and Im 99% sure im gonna accept...Im pretty physched about it....but i need to decide on a res.

Of course, Les Princes and Hedden are my first choices, but im stuck on what to choose next. Seems the only major disadvantage with McKay is the lack of AC and Im just wondering is personal AC's (not window mounted) are allowed in the room or would they be too much of a drain on Macs electric bill :S

J-Met, you mean a plug into the wall type AC yes?

If so, from any literature I've read thus far they are allowed.
