TEACH ME please! I just always click reply to some obscure mcmaster email to reply to. or is Outlook 2003 too ghetto for this?

Did you also enable your MacID?

No, activating and enabling isn't the same. I don't think so anyways. When you first log into mugsi on the right under quicklinks you'll see Enable My MacID services. Click on that. You should also note that it'll probably take 24hours before you can access your e-mail.

You need to have hotmail send through the McMaster servers. I don't know if that feature is available. It's just been made available in Gmail.

Lol, I can show you. I prefer to teach computer stuff in person though, so if you want to meet up, just let me know.

Outlook 2003 is just fine!

Oh, and I've never bothered looking at Thunderbird... Outlook does a fantastic job and is a very powerful program. I've always had a copy of Office, so Outlook is just a natural choice for me.

I'm starting to learn how to use Outlook, but the program isn't letting me add the McMaster email address. Any way to work around it?

Make sure you set up the correct settings:

email address: [email protected]muss.cis.mcmaster.ca

Account type: POP3

Incoming Mail server: muss.cis.mcmaster.ca
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): muss.cis.mcmaster.ca

What I did was go to Tools, then Account Settings, then pressed New, and then checked the Manual config box. Then I changed the incoming and outcoming mail servers to what you listed, and the account type and email address was right.

However, the inboxes and folders aren't showing up in the mail folders section. I just ran a Test Account Settings for the mac email address, and it failed to send the test email.

When you go to set up the account, click "more settings"

On the "outgoing server" tab, make sure you have "my outgoing server requires authentication" checked, and have "use the same settings as my incoming server" selected.

Then, go to the "advanced" tab, make sure you have the following settings:

Port: 995
"This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)" - checked
Outgoing Server (SMTP) : 25
Use the following type of encrypted connection: TLS

Hopefully that will allow it to work.

I never had problems setting up my McMaster email with Outlook 2007... it just set everything up automatically for me.
