McMaster Engineering
Hey guys,

So I got accepted into Mac's Engineering program and I wanted to know how good Mac's engineering program is? Is it well recognized outside of Canada? Do places like Caltech or MIT recognize Mac?

Also, how is the Co-op at Mac? What are some sample job postings? How many positions are available usually?

Thank you everyone, I appreciate it!

Ah, there we go again.

Also, lol? You are seriously dreaming of MIT? Must be nice to be young, careless and full of dreams.

Thank you for your message, and congratulations again! We look forward to seeing you in September.

Our co-op program at McMaster Engineering is an optional one - but we do hope that you join! More details are available at http://www.eng.mcmaster.ca/eccs/Coopstudents/Join.html.

When students join the co-op program, they also complete a (short) prep course - we teach job search skills, resume and cover letter writing, and interviewing tips . . . in addition to our favourite topic, workplace professionalism.

Each summer, we have approximately 1000 students working in jobs recognized as co-op by the University. However, it is a competitive process, and most students find more success after second or third year.

If you are thinking about attending graduate school (such as at Caltech or MIT), no worries - any North American engineering program is well-regarded. (For graduate school, your recommendation letters, personals statement, and possibly marks will play a role in getting accepted.)

The same is true for industry - any North American engineering program is held in high esteem - but students can increase their chances of securing permanent/entry-level jobs (following graduation) by participating in a co-op/internship program.

Please feel free to contact me if you have additional questions. Thanks again - Jessica

McMaster University is very well known outside of Canada. You shouldn't be worrying about that stuff now (wait at least until 4th year and then start thinking about graduate school and where to go). If you graduate from any university in Canada you can do your masters/PhD anywhere in the world.

McMaster has a decent reputation I'd say. Most well known is chemical for its contributions to polymers. All others are pretty good overall
