I know waterloo students have access to tons of microsoft programs for free, so I looked into it for Mac. From what I found, only Computer Science kids get access, but I wanted to make sure this was true.

So do any other faculties get access? I would think being in ECE would atleast score me Windows 7

If you score a copy let me know
I'm dying to see how it handles on a Mac.

Even the professors don't get the whole microsoft office thing. They get "openoffice" (i think that's the name).

I couldn't imagine students getting it if the profs don't. heh.

I got an e-mail about it the other day. I'm in mechatronics (which is a part of Computing and Software). I think it's only for CAS, not sure though.

if it helps, the next office will be online based and free

BTW, windows 7 runs pretty well on my computer... but for the VISTA ordeal i had to go through, it should definitely be a free upgrade

If you join the IEEE as a student member you get access to MSDNAA. You have to be in certain programs though. I don't know them off hand but you can try http://www.ieee.org/join/

FULL DISCLOSURE: I am associated with the IEEE as a member since 2005 and the Chair of the IEEE Student Branch on campus.

$32 to sign up. Defeats the purpose of getting it for free.

I'd say, considering all the software that is available, 32 USD is quite the bargain, especially since you would be getting legit copies.

I downloaded Windows 7 Pro off the MSDAA site (I'm in Mechatronics) and I'm encountering so many problems with it. My Dell laptop doesn't seem to be compatible with it at all haha. One error msg after another.

you must have some problem(s) with your download. If not the drivers. If vista could work, 7 should work. 7 should work on netbooks, so it should work anywhere lol

I can take a look at it for you this weekend(or even friday during the day) if you want, just PM me with the details(where and when we can meet).

Ya I have a feeling its just my drivers. Need to install them from the disc that came with the Dell laptop. One of the problems though is with the Dell Dock it keeps on encountering an error when I change the settings but its not that big of a deal.
