McMaster's Colours
Does anyone else disagree with McMaster's school colours? I don't find this shade of maroon to be particularly aesthetically pleasing.

It could be worse. They could have picked period red or something. I like the maroon; it gives a sophisticated feel.

Maroon is a pretty ugly colour.
On the grand list of problems I have with Mac though, it would pretty much be tied with "campus is sometimes a touch too windy". It doesn't really affect me, and it would be a logistical nightmare to try and change it. I'll live with it

The colours have been around for over 100 years... they're a strong part of the McMaster tradition.
I personally like them, and always have. One of the high schools I attended had the same colours, which I though was neat.

I personally like it. It's a pretty distinguished colour.
But at the end of the day, at least it's not purple.

My boyfriend has a school picture with that background. Laser backgrounds FTW.

Some background...
The maroon colour is rooted in ancient history where it was used as royal purple in Tyre. The dyes for the maroon colour were the most expensive to make and only available. The royal purple colour shifted more in the middle ages to the purple we now think of due to the costs of the Tyrian purple.

As far as traditions that should be changed, I think the cross should be removed from the logo. I am not saying that it should be removed from any existing placement, nor am I saying we should throw in a star of david, star and crescent moon, or flying spaghetti monster along side it. I think it should just be blank instead of the cross, it no longer reflects the mac community.
The colors are ugly, I agree, but it isnt an issue for me.

It reminds me of Harry Potter too. I have a friend who always points out the things that Mac and Harry Potter have in common. The only thing I can think of right now is how we're the Marauders, and Harry has the Marauders Map. Apparently there is more, though.

I personally think the colours are great and have a large amount of McMaster gear as a result.
