this seems silly but i just want to make sure...

if an employer's application instructions say "please send an email with your resume and grade reports" but oscar also has an "apply" link, would you also apply through oscar? or just send the email?

Send the email, then upload whatever you can through the apply; it can't hurt to do both. If the employer is checking both oscar and the email, and they end up seeing one response, then the other, they'll see you're dedicated, and you'll leave a bigger impression.

If it says on the job description to email your resume, cover letter, etc., then I would say it's safe to do just that.

But it wouldn't hurt to do both.

Every job description has an "Apply" button on OSCAR, even if the description says to email the files or to apply via another website.

Follow the instructions in the posting, biggest turn off is when someone doesn't follow instructions when applying.

OK, here's why I don't like McWork.

Let's say only Person A and Person B are applying to the same job on campus, a technical job that requires some technical university skills (for example, programming).

Person A's competence with the employer's needs are A-grade, and he proves to be the top candidate. Person B's skills are OK, and he becomes the 2nd choice candidate.

However, Person A was denied OSAP and his parents make just a tad too much to be qualify for the McWork program (and his/her parents were smart with mutual funds and RESPs, and were able to cover his/her tuition throughout university). Person B gets OSAP, and has some basic financial need (let's say he gets the bare minimum OSAP).

Now, the employer would have to pick the Person B, even though Person A's skillset would be a better fit for the employer.

I just don't think McWork works for technical jobs on campus.

On the website, it says

Applications open for summer work ONLINE through MUGSI: March 1 - July 31.

Then in the next paragraph....
McWork Applications open to undergraduate out-of-province, part-time, School of Medicine and Mohawk Nursing Consortium for fall/winter work-study: August 1 - February 28.

I'm just confused about the fall/winter application, cause I want to try to find a job on campus for fall/winter of 2010/2011 .. does the aug1 deadline apple to regular undergraduates studes (ie. not out of province)?

I'm sorry if the stuff is bolded, i can't get it to unbold after i pasted the sentences

Fall 2010 McWork jobs won't be posted until August 1, 2010.
