Clubs are the best way to get involved and best way to meet others with similar interests. The bigger clubs on campus will also organize events for you to network.

I signed up for 10ish clubs, I don't even remember them all I'm more concerned about meeting people in my res, since I'm barely ever there if I'm not asleep, and I have a single room so I don't get contacts through a roommate or anything. I figure it'll happen at some point, I just don't want to say that and then look back and have barely seen my entire floor all year.

no social opportunities does not just vanish after welome week.
honestly, if you're on campus, just meet people like join clubs. talk to them before class. etc.. no worry there will be lots of opportunities

people youre paired with in tutorials or groups or labs... maybe they will become your good friends... even the ones you live with... but generally you probably wont have that much time...

Personally, i've found that going to class 15 minutes early or so helps, because then you talk to people in the class since the doors are still closed, and you get to choose where you want to sit since the room isn't already full
