Move-out (in December)
Hey!

So we have to move out of residence by 12 noon on the day after our last exams.. But we only find out the exam schedule in November. The thing is though, that I need to know in advance when my exams are going to be held because I need to book tickets back home (i'm international) and they get crazy expensive if i don't book them soon.

Is there any way i can find out when my exams will be held ahead of time? Or be sure that they end by a certain date?

Unfortunately not, I would suggest booking a flight on the last day of exams. You can always apply for an extension to stay in residence (a booked flight is a legit reason).

A friend of mine had the same problem. Same concern of getting most of the flight. She ended up booked a flight before her last exam. She had to change her flight date and went home in reading week. So fly on the last day of exam is probably the choice with least question mark.

or simply stay here and save it for summer LOL.

There's a cool program called Home for the Holidays targeted towards international students in residence. You'd be paired with someone living off campus who wouldn't be staying in their student house for the holidays, and basically you live in their house/room for the period where you can't stay in residence.

I don't know the exact details (if there's a fee, etc), but if you can't get a flight home/want to save money, its probably your best bet.

Hmmm, I looked around, and couldn't find anything. However, I am nearly 100% sure that it is still being run, since all the SOCS reps were asked to consider it if we were going home for the holidays. Hopefully more information will be made available as the dates get closer.

Until then, talking to the OCRC might be your best bet. All their contact info can be found here.
