I was wondering that, if classes start on the 8th, can we move in on the 7th?

you move in 4-5 days before classes start, usually on the weekend before classes. It depends on residence.

I've read that move in dates are on the 3rd and 4th
however, I will be on a trip and want to stay as long as possible
so I want to know if I CAN move in on the 7th

I think you need to get special permission. And you'd miss frosh week, which is sort of a one time thing... but its possible.

It's usually okay if you want to move in a couple of days later. However, after a certain date (TBA) you'd have to fill a late move-in form. I think you'll be okay though. For e.g. last year move in was Sept 5/6, and anyone arriving Sept 10 or later had to fill in the form.
Just to make sure though, email rez admissions: resadmissions@mcmaster.ca

but remember if u move in on the 7th u will be missing all the welcome week stuff
U can always go to trips but welcome week as a frosh happens only once in ur lifetime
think carefully if u really want to stay long for ur trip
