Are you a supporter of your buddy James, whose campaign revolves around student action? Because you are apparently supporting inaction here

Damn straight. That Tiwari guy came right up to me in the student centre and said I only had 40 minutes to go vote in JHE. There was no way in hell I was going to walk all the way over there just for him.
All that I care about is Joy Singh not winning. If he wins, I might have to an hero.

By marking the abstain spot on your ballot you're making it known that you oppose the system and want to see real change.
Perhaps if the thousands of students who don't vote actually took 2 minutes out of their day to check the abstain box than we'd see some real change.
Candidates can promise reform until the cows come home but to actual revamp the system people have to stand up and say I disagree with this, I'm not voting for any of these people. I doubt the University could ignore 15 000 votes to abstain from voting for any of the candidates, hell even 2000 votes to abstain.
Not voting at all doesn't really send a message, you could just be too damn lazy to get your ass out of bed.

For context, here is the % turnout for MSU presidential elections since 1981.
1981 - 25.4%
1982 - 39.0%
1983 - 40.2%
1984 - 40.0%
1985 - 39.0%
1986 - 34.0%
1987 - 26.0%
1988 - 33.5%
1989 - 33.5%
1990 - 37.5%
1991 - 40.8%
1992 - 39.0%
1993 - 37.3%
1994 - 32.8%
1995 - 32.6%
1996 - 15.5%
1997 - 34.0%
1998 - 33.7%
1999 - 17.2%
2000 - 27.1%
2001 - 26.4%
2002 - 20.6%
2003 - n/a
2004 - 24.1%
2005 - 19.9%
2006 - 17.7%
2007 - 19.7%
2008 – est. 22% (4,238 ballots cast)
If it's true that turnout is about 13%, that may well be a McMaster record. To the best of my knowledge, turnout has not been that low at any time in the last 50 years.

Well i hope the 2500 person voter turnout is way off but I think that the disapproval of the student body with the MSU is somewhere towards a record high so I would not be surprised at a record high amount of student apathy.

If that's a correct number I would guess that upper year turnout was at an all-time low due to last year's election results.

I voted today near lunch time and my ballot number was in the 900s so I doubt that only 1600 people in the other faculties voted. (Presuming that the number on my ballot represents the number of voters in that faculty... I could be wrong)

Though I must ask: what's with the lack of love for Joy? (feel free to send it in a PM rather than go off topic here)

In all my experience with him I have found him, disrespectful, rude, and for lack of a better word, a tool. He came into my chem class (1aa3) to talk to us about his campaign and played a clapping game to try and make us pay attention.
one example:
at may at mac, engineering experience weekend, he was wearing the one group's colour headband for some reason - he was supposed to be an impartial judge. all the scores from the competition were in, and he changed the rules at the last second - and the team whose colour he was wearing won.
the dean ended up having to give both teams monetary prizes.

Ever heard of 'bringing down the system from the inside'?
That's why.
If you were really interested in 'protesting' and not just trolling, you would see the value in that.

Speaking of Engineering, has anyone ever been in that Engineering lounge before? That's practically the definition of sweaty-fat-bald-guy-who-sits-in-his-basement-playing-world-of warcraft. Honestly, as soon as you walk in, a wave of sweat, reek, and tired sounding groans hits you. I'm quite surprised I got out of there alive!

See now you're just asking for trouble by insulting the BLUE lounge. (Also, going off topic)
