I did! In Art Sci, there is a position on the executive for the SRA rep:
http://sassweb.ca/sass/exec.php
As a member of the executive, you have extra duties (apart from attending weekly meetings); such as helping out with event planning and set-up. It seems a little redundant, I know - but it does have significance, so I thought I would include it.
Thanks!

Explanation of the Single Transferable Vote
Single Transferable Vote
I hope that the following helps you understand how the presidential voting system works.
The presidential election is conducted according to the single transferable vote system. You will be given the opportunity to rank all five presidential candidates [in order of preference]. You may rank as many or as few of the candidates as you desire. Your vote will initially count for the candidate you rank as # 1.
After all ballots are counted, the candidate with the fewest votes (= # 1 rankings) will be declared out of the race. These votes will be reallocated in accordance to the # 2 choice on the ballot. If there is no # 2 ranking, the ballot shall be considered an abstention once the # 1 ranked candidate is out of the race. This process continues, with the votes being redistributed to the highest ranked candidate still in the election. The election is over once one candidate receives 50% of the vote plus 1.
In short, ranking all the candidates will not hinder the likelihood of your first place candidate winning. Ballots that do not rank all the candidates will be counted as normal for those candidates who are ranked. If all the ranked candidates are out of the race, the ballot shall constitute an abstention.
If you abstain, your vote will not count towards any candidate. You may abstain by leaving the ballot blank or marking the box marked abstain.
The following instructions will appear on your ballot:
HOW TO USE PREFERENTIAL VOTING:
There are five candidates on the ballot. Please rank the candidates in order of preference from 1 to 5 in the boxes, with 1 being your first choice and 5 being your last. Voters are allowed to indicate preference for as many candidates as they wish, by numbering those choices and leaving all remaining boxes blank.
This system is used to achieve a simple majority of 50% +1 for the winning candidate.
Ballots will be considered spoiled if a clear preference is not indicated.
I will attempt to answer any questions on this subject.
Sincerely,
Simon Gooding-Townsend

How did the second half of the debate go? I had to leave midway through.

I would love to give a rundown, but it wouldn't be sufficiently impartial.
I had a great time doing it though, I felt it went a bit smoother than the first debate (thats from my perspective anyway). Thankfully it was shorter too.

I was impressed with what I saw of your performance, which solidified my impression of you as an excellent candidate for the position. You'll probably be my second choice tomorrow, but I'll have no complaints if you take it. Good luck!

Everyone remember to get out to the polling stations and vote either today or tomorrow.
Make your voice heard on who you want as the next MSU President and don't forget the Coca Cola referendum.

Is a candidate allowed to be out campaigning today? I was quite disappointed to see Casey Park still out campaigning in front of MUSC and I'm wondering if this is even allowed... It's a dirty tactic in my opinion. I know certain other candidates and their team are out in their regular clothing, and telling people to go and vote... But they are keeping their names out of it.
If you tell people to go VOTE "So and So" right outside of the poll, who will they go vote most likely?

You aren't allowed to campaign within sight or sound of any of the polling stations, but you are still allowed to campaign in other areas. Many people realize that to win they have to get a lot of people out, and they will use tactics like standing in front of a building with a polling station and asking people to go in and vote for them. It works about 1/5 times!

It's so dirty though! I detest that. For the campaigners that are out there doing the responsible thing: Right on them. To those who feel like they need to be out there with buttons, shirt, and yelling "VOTE FOR ME" In front of the largest voting station at Mac, grow up and run like the other candidates are doing.
I would like to reiterate: Going out and saying: GO VOTE TODAY! is completely different than "GO VOTE!!! AND VOTE FOR ME!"
