Multimedia Program Issues...
I'm going into 3rd year Multimedia and I've been looking through the course calendar trying to plan out my schedule. I know that there was talk of courses being changed around but I'm really confused at what I need to take. The program requirements page hasn't changed since I checked last.

One of the requirements is 3 units in either 2C03 or 3G03 but based on the course calendar neither of those courses exist anymore! Also a lot of the other courses have been switched around so I'm going to assume that since I took 2E03 last year it still counts even though it's a different course this year... I'm so confused.

I was also trying to pick some of my other courses from the required course list and most of them either don't exist anymore based on the calendar or aren't offered this year based on the timetable!

If anyone could give me some help I would so appreciate it.

This is Stefanie btw. Hi!

To answer your specific question it looks like they got rid of 2C03 and 3G03 and changed it to 2K03 so you would have to take that, but if you have taken 2C or 3G in a previous year you can't take 2K.

I think the courses that aren't clickable are ones they have gotten rid of.

Sorry I don't have an answer for you, but I'm also going into third year multimedia and it works out so that I have 6 courses first term and 4 second term. Does anyone know if I can do this or am i going to have to choose some useless elective I am not interested in to make it 5 courses each term? The courses I am thinking of taking are: intro to digital audio, vector graphics, mmedia 2a03, mmedia 3b03, art 3e06(required) and art 3d03(also required). if anyone has taken these courses and could let me know if this seems manageable I'd really appreciate it.

oh and i'm double majoring in art, that's why i am taking so many second year courses in 3rd year.

I'm actually not sure if you can take 6 and 4. I don't see a reason why you wouldn't be able to, you'd just have to be willing to have a heavier load 1 term.

Hopefully someone else will give you a definite answer.

Hi Caitlin! I'm a recent graduate of the programme. When you first went into the MMEDIA stream in 2nd year your requirements back then should remain the same now. Reason being, the university can't change requirements quickly like that an expect you to take all new courses to complete your degree. They have to phase courses out slow enough so that those taking them to complete their degree can continue to do so.

That being said, if the course is a required course, it shouldn't change, or if it changed to a new course code you should be able to take it without any changing pre-requisits. If it was an elective, however, there is a chance it may have changed or no longer be offered.

As you can see on the MULTIMEDIA requirements main page... it divides the requirements into two categories... those who entered the program PRIOR to SEPT 2009, and students who are entering THIS YEAR in SEPT 2009. Therefore, it's clear that they've made some changes and those entering MMEDIA this year have different requirements than those who entered the program before this year (such as yourself). Therefore your requirements remain the same, while those entering this year will have different requirements. Therefore, the page you should be looking at is this one (http://registrar.mcmaster.ca /calen...nt/pg1913.html), and then if you're in Honours MMEDIA and not combining with another subject, the link that was mentioned above (http://registrar.mcmaster.ca /calen...t/pg1914.html).

As for the 4/6 issue, I would highly recommend having a balanced semester load, and if you're tried all possibilities with sectioning but still can't seem to balance your semesters out evenly, I would go and talk to two people: a) the Faculty of Humanities office located in CNH. And b) the department of CMST/MMEDIA academic advisor, to get assistance and answers to your questions.

Best of luck!
