New Years Resolutions
Tons of people seem to make resolutions for the new year, and I guess I'm sort of curious as to why. I dont understand why you have to wait until an arbitrary date to start doing something different.
Anyways, why do you (or don't you) make them?
What did you resolve to do in 2009?
What do you want to do in 2010?

I don't make them because I'm just probably too lazy to follow through, but I also know that fact and don't bother even making one.
The date (or new year) probably helps with a new habit to be formed - I know in grade 12 I was always super late for my morning classes, but as soon as I moved houses and started at McMaster, I was able to break that habit relatively easily because of the new situation.
People may try to assign a new situation to their lives in order to better create a new habit (or break an old one, for that matter).

Last year I made a resolution to be more friendly and travel more. Between jan 2009 and today I have travelled to 8 different countries and met lots of new friends
This year I think it will be something along the lines of dedicating more time to family and being more efficient with work

What did you resolve to do in 2009?
To stop skipping class - Accomplished? Yes! Roughly 90% attendance now vs about 40% before
What do you want to do in 2010?
To be in attendance for my 8:30 lectures. This is gonna be brutal, gonna need like a 40 of coffee to keep me awake lol.

New Year's Day is probably the worst time of year to make a resolution since it's the dead of winter and many people can experience seasonal affective disorder. My previous resolutions were usually made in May.
I'm a paddler so I'm gonna try to improve more and hopefully win some medals at Nationals this year.

-get better grades

In contrast to about 95% of my friends (i.e. all 9.5 of them), not really.

2009:
- stopped drinking any carbonated drinks completely
- accomplished a few academic and extracurricular goals for the time I was in high school
2010 resolutions:
- turn those crappy first year university marks around
- find out what I should do with my life (life sci program is too broad for me... and so far, I'm pretty confused with my future)
- improve personal relationships with a few people in my life
- go to the gym

I didn't make any resolutions..lazy much maybe..and didn't really think it would be followed religiously..so what would have been the point.
2010
I have to:
-play a recreational sport, badminton to be true. It's been a year and a half since i have been planning to go play that.
-eat healthy..and not just live on campus food, also do some grocery shopping. [I hate campus food..for making me so damn lazy and chubby! :(]
-bring up grades
And this time I feel like I can do it! I am definitely looking forward to play some badminton..cook something healthy (lose wt ) and study hard!
2010 I am ready for you!

1) I can count at least 13 of your friends
2) You're not fat, deal with it
3) I might finally shell out for a gym membership next year, I plan for you to be my gym buddy
4) Get on MSN so you can help me decide what I want to buy online (probably gonna get a funny/nerdy T-Shirt)
5) What was your post about again?

I don't make new years resolutions. I know I'm probably one of the worst procrastinators here and I've been trying to fix that all of this academic year. It's more of a day to day thing rather than one big crazy resolution.
